100 Years of Scouting

Since Baden Powell held his first camp on Brownsea Island in August 1907, Scouting has grown to be the biggest and most successful youth movement in the world.

There are in excess of 29 million Scouts in over 216 Countries or Territories. Over 300 million people in the past 100 years have made the Scout promise, many of them prominent people (of the 12 people to have walked on the moon 11 have been Scouts).

We would like to invite anyone who lives in Ware and the local area to join us at some of the various activities to celebrate this milestone of 100 years of Scouting.

The main focus of these celebrations in 2007 will be the Sunrise event at 8am on the 1st August 2007. Every Scout in the World will be renewing their promise.

If you would like to be part of this important historic event or if you're an adult with some time to spare and an interest in helping young people have fun, then please contact us.

There are lots of people to help you and a structured learning program for skills development to suit the time you have available. Without the input and continued help of adults it's not possible to provide the range of exciting and fun activities young people today need to fully prepare them for life.

A number of key events are planned for 2007 with the aim of providing a memorable experience for all that are currently involved in Scouting in our District. If you have been a Scout in the past either in our District or elsewhere we would like to invite you to some of these.
